About Us

Online Knitting Yarn and Wool Suppliers UK for Knitting and Crochet Yarn, Kits, Patterns, Haberdashery and Craft Supplies

Hello - I am Ruth Strickley, and this online knitting wool and yarn store is owned and managed by me, in conjunction with our sister company Chilla Valley Alpacas where I have a small herd of breeding females, based here in Cornwall.

At www.thelittlewoolcompany.com, I have created our own brand of yarns called Chilla Valley Alpaca, and these are processed within the UK at specialist mills. I also use local hand spinners, and mini mills, depending upon what I am trying to achieve and the quantities involved.

We sell our own products here in our online shop, and you will also see us about at shows so look out for me and come and say hello.. Why not sign up for the Newsletter and that way you can keep track of what is new. You can also follow us on Twitter www.twitter.com/littlewool and Facebook www.facebook.com/TheLittleWoolCompany and Google+

I design my own yarns, kits and patterns and also have a range of socks and bedding.. None of my products are mass produced and are usually on a limited run each year so please shop as soon as you decide you like something to avoid disappointment.

In addition I source and present to my customers quality yarns from other producers, and products such as shawls, scarves, throws and gifts. All of the products are either processed by ourselves in the UK or made by other local artisans and producers. I try to use suppliers and organisations adopting Fairtrade policies (where fair prices are given and people are not exploited)

We are very pleased to be supporting the HRH Prince of Wales, Campaign for Wool and in turn by purchasing one of our products you are also doing so too and thus helping the rural economy. We are proud to take our place amongst the other great British yarn and wool producers that exist here in the UK

I do get inundated with charity appeals and intern requests and as a small business it would be impossible to support all of them. However it makes me unhappy to turn people down and so I have decided to re-direct everyone to www.knitforpeace.org.uk as this is a registered charity that matches knitters with good causes. It is very well organised and so if you visit their website you can receive free patterns and ideas of what to knit. At the moment we are also including knit for peace bookmarks in our parcels. You may like to visit our blog as their is more information on there about this worthwhile cause. As my working week is so varied I don't necessarily keep to normal business hours and also we could be here but just out with the animals - so if you are telephoning please do not be put off by the answer machine - leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Alternatively you can email using the Contacts page and again I will answer it as soon as possible. The website is checked regularly for orders and queries.
