About Us
Online Knitting Yarn and Wool Suppliers UK for Knitting and Crochet Yarn, Kits, Patterns, Haberdashery and Craft Supplies
Hello - I am Ruth Strickley, and this online knitting wool and yarn store is owned and managed by me, in conjunction with our sister company Chilla Valley Alpacas where we have a small herd of breeding females, based in Devon.
At www.thelittlewoolcompany.com, I have created our own brand of yarns called Chilla Valley Alpaca, and these are processed within the UK at specialist mills. I also use local hand spinners, hand knitters and crocheters and mini mills, depending upon what I am trying to achieve and the quantities involved.
We sell our own products here in our online shop, and you will also see us about at shows. Look out for me and my team(usually my husband) throughout the UK. You will always be able to see what is coming in new in the News Section and you will be able to see which shows I am at next in the Calendar section.
I design my own yarns, kits and patterns and have also designed a range of skin care products all hand made in Devon from natural ingredients, designed to suit crafters or those that work with their hands. The body butter in particular has proved very effective. None of my products are mass produced and are usually on a limited run each year so please shop as soon as you decide you like something to avoid disappointment.
In addition I source and present to my customers quality yarns from other producers, and products such as shawls, scarves, throws and gifts. All of the products are either processed by ourselves in the UK or made by other local artisans and producers. Some of my yarn suppliers import from Peru and Uruguay, but I only use organisations adopting Fairtrade policies.
In order to help me fulfill my orders for the forthcoming year I would be very interested to hear from professional hand knitters who are able to work in small numbers to a high quality finish. I also wish to contribute to the local economy by supporting other small businesses by offering fair prices for products and fleeces. I am interested in hearing from anyone who would like to sell fleece in small amounts, for example Alpaca, Blue Faced Leicester, Soay, Gotland, Shetland.
As my working week is so varied I don't necessarily keep to normal business hours and also we could be here but just out with the animals - so if you are telephoning please do not be put off by the answer machine - leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Alternatively you can email using the Contacts page and again I will answer it as soon as possible. The website is checked regularly for orders and queries.
